“Stop trading your joy for happiness.”
When I say “joy” I am referring to the thing that comes from God: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13). When I say “happiness ” I am referring to the feeling that is dependent on our current circumstances.
Esau traded his birthright for a bowl of stew. He traded something of great value for something of little value. He traded something lasting for something temporary. He traded future for present. He traded something his spirit desired for something his flesh desired. He traded future hope for future regret. He later realized he had made the wrong choice and begged to undo the damage, but it wasn’t possible to do so.
Pay careful attention to the choices in your life and choose wisely. Choose life. Choose peace. Choose joy. Choose a close relationship with Jesus.
